base metal: 925 silver
Gold Vermeil
Vermeil denotes top-tier silver—either pure or sterling—coated with a layer of gold, measuring at least 1.5 microns. Typically, modern vermeil jewelry is produced through electroplating, a chemical method that fuses silver and gold using an electrical current. With proper care, this plating endures well, particularly when avoiding wearing jewelry during sleep, swimming, or exercise.
base metal: lower grade metal (brass, copper, etc.)
Gold Plated
In traditional terms, gold-plated jewelry involves electroplating a brass, copper, or lower-grade metal with a thin gold layer. Typically more affordable, this option doesn't adhere to specific karat weight or thickness standards and often experiences rapid wear. However, there's an exception we'll delve into shortly.
